During his second match of the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup in India, English cricketer Joe Root created a new story for his country by becoming England’s top scorer in the history of ODI World Cups.

It was the decisive match of the tournament between England and Bangladesh in Dharamsala. After Bangladesh decided to play first in this day-ODI match, England scored 364/9 in 50 overs. In response, Bangladesh lost 227 rounds in 48.2 overs as the defending champions won by 137 rounds. It was England’s fourth largest ODI World Cup win (by number of races) and the largest ODI win (by number of races) in Asia.

During the first innings of the match, while starter Jonny Bairstow scored 52 runs on 59 balls (eight fours) and Dawid Malan scored 140 runs on 107 balls (16 fours and five sixes), batsman number 3 Joe Root scored 82 runs on 68 balls (eight fours and only six).

Prior to this match, Root (835 runs) was 62 runs behind England’s leading ODI World Cup scorer Graham Gooch (897 runs in 21 innings). After playing 82 matches against Bangladesh, Root surpassed Gooch and became England’s top scorer in the history of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.

At the end of the match, English cricketer Right Root scored 917 runs in 18 ODI World Cup innings. He has made three centuries and five half-centuries in his career at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
